Fall fashion trends 2020 - my top 5 favs!

Okay, truth be told, style and fashion trends are definitely NOT one of the key things that I focus on. I will never be that girl who is on the cutting edge of fashion and setting all the trends. To me, that is not what style is all about. I believe that style is a reflection of who we are on the INSIDE. That style and fashion is a tool to share your message with the world; to help you shine bright for Jesus. THAT is what I’m all about. and that is what I focus on with my clients. That being said, I also think it’s fun to follow the trends and pick and choose what you like, what works for you, so you can add that to your style toolkit!

SO this week I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite trends for fall. There are actually some fun ones here so I think you are going to be able to find something that works for YOU and apply it to your own personal style! Okay, here goes:

#1 - Column Dressing

Ooooh friend, if you haven’t discovered the secret of column dressing, let this be your new best friend!!! This is an excellent strategy for dressing for your body type and I was SO excited to see it on the list of trends for this fall. Essentially, column dressing is wearing the same solid color on top and bottom. There are two different types of column dressing: the inner column and the outer column. The inner column is where your top and bottom are one solid color, and then you add an outer layer as different color or print. This strategy is excellent for a B or O body type where you tend to carry any extra fluff around your middle or your chest area. This helps to elongate your torso from head to toe. The outer column is where your outer layer and bottoms are one solid color, with your inner layer on top being a different color or print. This strategy is excellent for the D body type where the extra fluff is centered around your hips and/or bottom. This creates a bit more width on top to balance out the D body type and create more of a silhouette.

#2 Colored Leather

I could not be more excited about this one. This past year, the moto jacket was all the rage and I absolutely LOVE the detail and for this D body type, a good moto can help to create that balance. Yet, to add colored leather jackets to my already obsessive relationship with jackets, this could make me go a little crazy! Give me ALL the colors: blue, green, even RED leather — it’s SUCH a perfect outfit completer and can take a simple tee and distressed jeans and really make you POP! ESPECIALLY if you grab one in one of your KEY signature colors from the Color Code system….seriously, I’m drooling over here. This trend may just be my favorite!

#3 Sleeve Detail

This one is so fun! I absolutely LOVE pieces that are original and stand out, and this sleeve detail trend for this fall is making me smile BIG for a couple of reasons: (1) it’s bringing the 80’s back! Who doesn’t LOVE a flashback to their old high school days, only BETTER! and (2) for this D girl, additional detail on top is my FRIEND! SO - here is the scoop on the sleeves. Whether it’s puffy sleeves, asymmetrical sleeves, or big bell sleeves - they are all FUN in different ways - you get to choose what YOU like! Maybe you are more of a trendsetter and love the asymmetrical look. Or maybe you are like me and need a little extra height and width on top to balance you out. The puffy sleeve look will do just the trick!

#4 Plaids are BACK

Okay, I realize that not every will be excited about this one, but again plaids just remind me of fun, simpler times of the 90s and so I just can’t help but be a little excited to see the plaid comeback. Plaids make a fun print, especially for the Effortlessly Classic style type and can help to accessorize a nice classic outfit. Whether it’s a plaid raincoat, pleated plaid skirt, or a fun plaid head band or slingback shoe - it’s a timeless trend with strong Scottish roots that has stood the test of time. You determine how or if you want to buy into more plaid, yet this style trend seems to be here to stay! For me, I’m more of a cross between a Natural Beauty and Modern Trendsetter style type so plaid will be more of an accessory with a fun scarf or poncho. Speaking of…..

#5 Capes and Ponchos

Yes! I love a cute poncho for a few reasons: 1) It’s such an easy way to look trendy and fashionable; 2) They look good on everyone! and 3) There are so many different cute styles that align with any style type! Oooh and last but definitely not least - they are EASY! #winning Take a pair of leggings or jeans, add some tall riding boots (also very IN this season) and then throw on a poncho with a cute hat and you are READY for day of shopping with the girls or a casual dinner out with your man!

These are just a few of my favorites from the Fall Trend 2020 reports available through Vogue, Pop Sugar and Harper Bazaar. I hope you like them! Fall is my absolute FAVORITE time of year where we can pull out the jeans, layered tops and sweaters and of course booties! Did you know that I pull together capsule look books for each of my style assessment clients? If you are interested in hearing more, you can contact me HERE!

Happy almost Fall, friend!
